Jump to Recipe

It’s Pride Month and that’s why we share rainbow recipes all month long! We previously made a rainbow paradise co*cktail. But not only do we make rainbow-colored recipes, but we also share other important flag colors of the LGBTQ+ community.

Earlier we made a frozen co*cktail in the colors of the bi flag, and today we share a Pride co*cktail recipe with the colors of the transgender flag: blue, white and pink.

With our rainbow recipes we try to make the world a little more colorful and accepting from the kitchen! Will you help? Share your creations via #rainbowrecipes.

Trans Flag

The transgender flag was designed in 1999 by trans woman Monica Helms. It represents the transgender community and consists of 5 horizontal stripes: 2 light blue, 2 pink and 1 white in the center.

Light blue is the color for baby boys and pink for baby girls. The line in the middle is white, for the transgender people in transition or non-binary people who do not fall within the ‘boy / girl’ boxes.

Trans Pride co*cktail

The Tipsy Bartender has a recipe for a light blue / pink sleeping beauty co*cktail:

3 oz / 90 ml Hpnotiq
2 oz / 60 ml Kinky Pink Liqueur
2 oz/ 60 ml Vodka
1 oz / 30 ml 7Up / Sprite
4 ice cubes

Shake Hpnotiq with 2 ice cubes in a co*cktail shaker and pour (without ice cubes) into a (chilled) martini glass. Rinse the co*cktail shaker and shake the remaining ingredients and pour carefully (without ice cubes) over the blue layer.

The problem? We couldn’t get Hpnotiq and Kinky Pink Liqueur. Our attempt with blue curacao and vodka lemonade was a fail. So we decided to make three different co*cktails, in blue, white and pink!

Blue co*cktail = Blue Lagoon co*cktail

This summer co*cktail is nice and sweet and consists of vodka, blue curacao, lime juice and 7Up (or Sprite). Throw your (tulip) glass full of ice cubes, or shake it in a co*cktail shaker with ice, so that the drink is cold.

White co*cktail = Gimlet co*cktail

Okay, a normal gin and tonic is of course also possible for the white color, but the gimlet co*cktail is trending again. You mix 2 parts gin (or vodka) with 1 part lime juice, lemonade or lime liqueur.

With only lime juice, it is a very strong and sour drink, but some people like it. Do you prefer sweet? Then use a lime lemonade or lime liqueur.

Pink co*cktail = Cosmopolitan co*cktail

This pink co*cktail is really a gay co*cktail and is enjoyed by many gay men. When we think of the LGBTQ+ community, we often think of ‘gay’, but being transgender has nothing to do with attraction. This is about gender identity and that is different from ‘who you fall for’.

The cosmopolitan co*cktail (known from S€x and the City) is made with vodka, triple sec, lime juice and cranberry juice. Shake this together with 2 ice cubes in a co*cktail shaker, pour it into a cooled martini glass and your co*cktail is ready.

Sugar Rim or Salt Rim

You can garnish all co*cktails with a lime wedge or an orange twist. But you can also decorate the glasses with a sugar rim or salt rim.

Dip the rim of your glass in a layer of water (or wipe a lime wedge along the edge) and then dip the rim in a layer of sugar or salt. The combination of sour lime goes well with salt.

It may sound crazy, but in Mexico they love sweet, sour, spicy and salty combinations. Often a tequila shot or tequila co*cktail is served with salt and lime.

co*cktail Shaker

You need a co*cktail set for this recipe. But a jar or something works too! It is useful to use a jigger to measure your ingredients. We have a standard 20/40 ml jigger and that is what the measurements in the recipe are made for.

Don’t have a jigger? Then you can also use a shot glass of 1 oz.
